What skills will
my child learn as part
of The Green Elephant ?

We provide children with a combination of play-based and intentional teaching activities
which help them to gain the broader range of skills needed for them to develop more
traditionally understood abilities, e.g., writing, name recognition, basic mathematical
concepts, phonic awareness and more.

Some of these broader skills include:

1. Nurturing Relationships

In the nursery room, we prioritise building nurturing relationships between infants and educators. We understand the importance of secure attachments and provide a warm, responsive, and caring environment. By forming trusting relationships, we support the emotional well-being and development of each child.

.

2. Sensorial Exploration

Infants at this stage are highly engaged with their senses. We provide a variety of age-appropriate materials and experiences to promote sensorial exploration. This includes soft textures, colourful objects, musical toys, and safe sensory materials, allowing infants to develop their sensory perception and discover the world through tactile, auditory, and visual experiences.

3. Responsive Enviroments

Our nursery room is designed to be responsive to infants’ needs and interests. We create safe, inviting spaces encouraging exploration, mobility, and independent discovery. We offer low shelves with open-ended toys and materials that support their emerging motor skills, such as grasping, crawling, and pulling up.

.

4. Language and Communication

Language development is a key focus during the infant stage. We provide a language-rich environment where educators engage in conversations, sing songs, and read stories to infants. We encourage responsive interactions, gestures, and facial expressions to support their language understanding and foster early communication skills.

5. Parent Partnership

We value the partnership with parents in the nursery room. Regular communication, including sharing observations and milestones, helps parents understand their child’s growth and development. We also encourage parent participation in the learning process, such as sharing cultural experiences or providing items of interest for exploration, enhancing the connection between home and the nursery room.
